John Winchester

Yesterday I was reading a Sam/Dean fic that contained the worst characterization/assassination of John that it's been my misfortune to have read.
When I got through being angry, I laughed...I am not kidding when I say that it was that bad that the only part of the John Winchester I recognised..was his name! The Sam and Dean characterization was spotty as well, but that hadn't stopped people fawning over it..*shrugs*..each to their own I guess.

So did I leave the author feedback? Nope..I'm just moaning about it here..LOL!
And I mentioned it to dodger_winslow who I have to say along with writers like Carol and Eloise really do know how to write John, promptly posted this gorgeous piece of digital art . That really made me smile :-)

Great picspam. I love those pictures so much.

I've always loved his character, and so when I write and read him, it's important that he's done right. The worst John portrayal that I've seen in fan fic is abusive!John. He may have depended a lot on Dean, but he was never abusive.

Awesome picspam! I love John. I hate it when people get his character wrong. He wasn't dad of the year but he did the best he could.

It always amazes me when people fawn over bad stories...but I figure it's because they don't know enough to find good stories. Or they're trying to fit into what they perceive as the "popular" crowd. Usually it means I discredit anything they say after that through.

I happen to love John--he lost his wife under terrible circumstances, leaving him with two little boys to raise alone. That he gave up his life for his eldest son was the ultimate sacrifice, and I'm so glad he was there to see the YED vanquished. Thanks for the great picspam of Papa Winchester. HUGS, Robin

Gah! I'm a huge John fan and this picspam got me more riled up than those new pics of Shemar Moore naked did. JDM is so handsome and so wonderful as the complex Winchester patriarch. I love ficcing him so much I have a John only *series* and a second John-centric series plotted out.

It is too bad to hear that people aren't writing him IC because his character is so amazing to work with as is for an author.

Eh. As I was saying time ago...I'm all for dark AUs and such, but one thing is to explore a character in a darker, different direction than canon, and another is character rape. I mean, if the story needs a Bad Guy, then get the boys into a foster home, and make the foster father the Bad Guy. It's not that difficult.
