Munich remembered...
Feb. 6th, 2008 12:51 pmOn February 6, 1958, the Manchester United football team was returning from a European Cup match they had played against Red Star Belgrade in the former Yugoslavia. The team drew the match 3-3 and had chartered a plane to bring them back to Britain.
The plane made a scheduled stop in Munich to re-fuel before the second leg of the journey. It made two failed attempts to take off from Munich because the plane’s engine was surging – a relatively common problem with the Elizabethan aircraft.
On the third attempt the plane crashed into the airport fence and then into a house. The wing and part of the tail were ripped off and the house caught fire.
Twenty one of those on board were killed on February 6, but within three weeks, two more had lost their battles to live.

Today is also my parents wedding anniversary, if my mum was still with us it would have been their 48th.
