Lauren Update, birthdays and some waffle..

Lauren broke her right ankle on both sides. She had an operation to put a pin in it yesterday, and she came home this afternoon :-)

And yeah I may be overreacting..you can't wrap them in cotton wool..but i'm not letting my kids on a trampoline in future! She didn't even come off it, and she was the FIFTH trampoline injury they had in A&E that day. That was just one day in ONE hospital!!
One Saturday another girl was admitted to Laurens ward with a double break to her arm..and yep..trampoline!!

ACK! I missed the Torchwood finale on Friday :-(..good job there is a repeat on Tuesday. And it hasn't freakin' well stopped snowing all day today! Snow in England in April!! *er*

Ugh, poor Lauren. Hugs to both of you.

J wrenched his knee on a trampoline ages ago, but fortunately didn't break anything. Then my ex decided we needed to have one in our back yard--they're all over the place around here. He did at least have the sense to buy all the safety stuff that goes around it, so that there's a high net to prevent falling off, and padding and covering to keep legs from sliding into the openings along the sides. Knock wood, nobody's gotten hurt on that one beyond minor sprains. They're definitely not the safest entertainment, though.

If it's any consolation, we have snow in the forecast for next week....

I never even really thought about trampolines much until now!

And how is she? Not in to much pain I hope? Does she have to have another op later to remove the pins again?I did read about the accident, but didn't have time to comment, sorry.

And trampolines are really dangerous. I can't bare to think of all the horrible things that can happen on one of those... I just to have nightmare about being on one and not being able to stop jumping and always going higher and higher, almost hitting the gym ceiling (not possible, I know, but still...)

She's doing okay, we are gradually working out how to do things..like hairwashing and showers etc.

Her sister is going swimming with friends today, so she's not happy about that.

She has to have an x-ray in a weeks time and a different cast put on so maybe we'll find out more then.

Glad to hear Lauren is home now, hope she'll be okay.

The Torchwood finale was good...especially James...I nearly cried a few times!

It's been snowing here too, although it seems to have stopped again now. I remember snow in June once! Still it's a good excuse to stay indoors and read tons of fanfic!

Best of luck to your poor daughter. I've got pins and screws in one foot from bad breaks. Being young, she'll heal up faster than I did I'm sure, but I'm sorry she had to have surgery.

I agree about the trampolines. I was hurt on one when I was 8 years old and ended up in the emergency room. No more for me after that, and I won't allow my 10-yr-old son on one either.

Oh god what an awful thing to happen on a trampoline!
My kids have ben looking for me to get one for a while now and i have refused.... so many accidents on thse things.

I had no idea trampolines where that dangerous! :o But I think kids can get really carried away on them and then end up making a wrong movement and bam...broken bones. :o

I'm glad that she's home and I hope she isn't in to much pain. Not many people around here have trampolines anymore and those that do have so many safety features on them they aren't fun anymore. Just having one on your property here makes your home insurance rates jump.

Yeah, this was in her friends back garden..she didn't come off like I first thought, but landed awkwardly.
But the others in the hospital were at Sports Centres, so not safe despite the precautions.

Poor kid :( Glad Lauren is back home though :) Will she have the cast off before summer? Still though, if you have to be stuck at home because of a broken ankle, snowy weather is the time to do it.

Trampolines scare the crap out of me, always have.
