Anyone know a cure for reading WIP's?

It seems to be happening more now for people to delete their fics and journals. Sadly they seem to be ones that I really like and can go months without an update and still easily remember everything that has gone on.
Obviously they have their reasons and I'm not saying anything about that..stuff happens.

I just need to stop reading them, but I am weak... *sigh*

Pointless post really..ignore me!

Not a pointless post, I totally agree. I try my hardest to stay away from wip's...It's really annoying to get attached to a fic and then have it disappear or never finished.

There's only a couple, from certain writers that I'll read as they post cos I can't resist. The rest I tend to bookmark and then when I'm bored or in need of something to read I'll go through the bookmarks to see whats finished.

Awww :( It sucks when that happens! Though it's absolutely everyone's right to do that if they wish, it's hard on people 'cause you get invested in someone's work, y'know?

LOL, I don't think I'd ever delete my fics unless, like, I got a similar story published. Then I'd just hope you would go out and buy it ;) Make me rich.

All this from me, who is being super-lame at updating recently!

I know your pain, and what makes it worse is that I'm guilty of the same. Had to axe three of mine last week ><. I now have the willpower not to post, but i wish I had had before i started posting.

I feel the same. There are some writers I read regulary who do WIPS, but they are regular posters, so that's fine, I know I'll get frequent updates, but others don't post for months between chapters which is so frustrating... But I know better than anyone how RL can leave you no time for creativity, but it's still so frustrating, especially if the story has a good hook. *Sigh* What you gonna do? There aren't that many "finished" works out there outside of the comms such as [livejournal.com profile] whenboymeetsboy or the Big Bang stuff. And as much as I like one-offs, I do enjoy a nice long story... ;-)

Wow...I've been seeing this a lot, entire journals etc deleted. I rarely read WIP's other than from a few people who I know will get to the end.

I'm sorry that happened to you.

I work hard on my fics and love them too much (Ok, that sounds wierd), even the ones I don't like to delete them. I'm one of those people who might not know the beginning of a fic, but I know the end when I start.

Wow -- people do that? Delete their stories/journals, I mean? Why? Is there a space limit or something? I can't imagine deleting mine... one because it takes me so flippin' long to post them in the first place and two because somewhere in the back of my mind that I don't like to shed light on too often is a hope that someone may stumble upon a story, read it, enjoy it, and let me know.

I agree, though. I hate getting involved with WIPs when reading because I want to know what happens next NOW. Not 4 months from now when RL slows down enough for the writer. I have a personal goal of no more than 2.5 weeks between posts.

I'm a bit of a hypocrite with that, though, because while I don't like to read WIPs, I hope hope hope that people read mine. What a crazy mixed up world this fanfiction is.

That's why I've stopped posting WIPs. I don't think it's fair for my readers (if I have any LOL) to have to wait forever for an update.

Have you tried looking other places for the stories?

I have maybe 4 or 5 people tops that I will read WIP from. People who have never let me down before, and I expect that to continue.

How do I avoid it?

If I am looking to read stuff, I'll look at back copies of the [livejournal.com profile] spnnewsletter and look for stuff that says 4/4, 20/20, 38/38. Then I know they are no longer WIP and that is when I'll read them. I go back to chapter one and read straight through like a book.

It is much more enjoyable to me to read that way. Because I can't keep track of so many WIPs.

Don't know if that helps.

I'd begun a story and made the mistake of thinking I could post a chapter a week. I always kept a few chapters ahead of the game, but I realize now I probably should have had a beta before posting them, because my task is to go back to a post I made and make major changes. Not to mention the fact that I haven't posted or written in... two months. Since school began. I just can't do it while school is going on, and I feel crappy for the people who really liked it and wanted to read more. I feel like I'm losing steam too, which irritates me because I love my story. ANYWAY THIS WAS UNNECESSARY OF ME, AND I AM SORRY FOR THE TANGENT. But ugh, no matter what, I could never delete any of my stuff.

I know that feeling. Maybe just try reading the stories once they're complete.
