I'm impressed that you know Victorian slang!

Some New England Slang: A grinder is a big sammich (in the REAL city of NY, it's called a Hero.. other places call them subs or hoagies) And a packie (or package store) is a liquor store. I think that's either a leftover from prohibition or one of New England's weird blue laws... they can be really conservative up there.
